Obesity is a medical factor where a person carries excess body fats than normal. When a person’s body mass index (BMI) measurement exceeds 30 kilogram per metre square, obesity occurs. BMI measurement is done by dividing the person’s weight in kilogram with his height in metre.

Calorie is a unit which measures the energy value of food. To maintain a healthy weight a man and a woman can take at most 2500 and 2000 calories respectively each day. Having calories above this daily dose converts into fat cells and causes obesity.


Unhealthy food choices

Food choices like eating fast foods, ignoring fruits and vegetables, eating larger portions than you need, drinking too much of alcohol, etc. are very unhealthy to our health. These food choices not only cause obesity but also may lead to several chronic health hazardous diseases.

Lack of physical activity

People in the GenX of 21st century lead a very relaxing life. For example they prefer to rely on cars instead of walking, in free times they used to play indoor games rather than outdoor or exercises. This lack of physical activity is one of the strongest causes of obesity.


Unfortunately obesity runs in genes and can get inherited from the parents. But proper diet and regular exercises can control this cause of obesity also.


Side effects of several drugs like contraceptives, steroid hormones like corticosteroids, antidepressants, medicines for diabetes, etc. can lead to weight gain. Researchers said that smoking causes to lose weight fast; therefore quitting of smoking may lead to obesity.
