How to Create The Illusion of Bigger Lips

Those of us who weren’t born with natural full lips can become quite envious of people like Angelina Jolie who has the natural pout of a goddess. Then there are those who went the other route and had their lips plumped like Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian and may we add that it looks absolutely fabulous. Now the question that comes to mind is how do we mere mortals get the loop without being born with it or shelling out a lot of money? Because quite frankly, most of us just won’t ever be able to afford it.

Thank goodness there are a few ways for you to make your lips look fuller without denting your purse and with the extra money you are saving you can invest in some really great makeup!

Here’s how to create the illusion of bigger lips:

1. Exfoliate

We simply cannot give you advice on how to plump up your lips without dealing out some self-care advice as well. Exfoliating your lips before applying any type of lipstick, gloss or balm is the first step to a healthy-looking pout. There are incredible products available for this exact purpose and if you’re not in the market to buy something like this then make your own! All you need is honey and sugar. Two teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of honey mixed well and you’re ready to scrub. You can use a toothbrush to apply the scrub then leave it on for about ten minutes. By the time you remove it your lips will be silky smooth and soft. Remember to apply some lip balm after.

2. Concealer

Applying concealer to your lips will act as a canvas for the masterpiece that will be your full lips. Make sure to apply it just over your natural lip line so it blends naturally with your skin tone. The concealer will also help your lipstick to stay on longer.

3. Liner

Now is when you apply your lipliner of choice just note that going darker will make your lips look thinner, so using a more natural colour like a nude or shade darker than your lips will work perfectly compared to a very dark berry colour.

Apply the liner just outside of your natural lip line to create the illusion of fuller lips.

4. Colour

Now if you’ve gone for a beautiful natural shade your lips will appear fuller when you apply it. If you’ve opted for a darker shade your lips will still look plumper but not as much as it would with a nude or natural pink. The choice is all up to you though!

5. Gloss

Lastly, you can apply a gloss that plumps up the lips. These glosses usually have a hint of cinnamon or cayenne in them to help your lips swell a little more. So you’ll get double the effect. And don’t worry these lip glosses don’t normally taste like their ingredients.

A little tip: You can apply Vaseline after exfoliating then rub on some cinnamon powder, it will also naturally plump up your lips for a fuller look.

And if you really have a hard time getting the full lip look you want, why not invest in a makeup class or ask a professional to show you how. All it takes is a bit of practice!
